DECONFINING was a four-year EU-funded project bringing together cultural practitioners, artists, policy makers, and audiences from two continents – Europe and Africa. Dedicated to contributing to a better understanding of (social, political and economic) confinement patterns from different viewpoints, the project aimed to explore and develop new ways of intercontinental artistic and cultural (policy) cooperation and provide better access and information for intercontinental mobility and co-creation. On the Move was one of the partners of this project.
The project was linked to three other On the Move members: ITI Germany (lead partner) as well as Culture Funding Watch (Tunisia) and NIK in Czech Republic.
As part of this project, On the Move produced three research reports, namely: Movements of Translation and Return: Art, Mobility and the Diaspora (2025), An Invitation to Transform Your Vision of the Cultural Mobility Ethic from an African Perspective (2023) and Schengen Visa Code and Cultural Mobility: Latest Insights with a Focus on Artists and Culture Professionals from the African Continent (2023), also available in French thanks to the support of the French Ministry of Culture.
