Webinar Recording: Digital Mobility and Algorithmic Justice

The webinar ‘Cultural Mobility Webinar: Digital Mobility and Algorithmic Justice’ was held on 7 October 2026 as part of On the Move’s multi-annual programme New Solidarities, co-funded by the European Union and in collaboration with HowlRound.

The Cultural Mobility Webinar explored digital mobility and algorithmic justice: the pursuit of fair, transparent and accountable algorithmic systems that do not harm historically marginalised people or communities.

Algorithms increasingly determine which artists and cultural content are visible and discoverable across borders. While digital platforms can remove some barriers to participation, they can also distribute opportunities unevenly and reinforce existing inequalities.

Can artists understand or challenge the algorithmic decisions affecting their visibility? How can the cultural sector contribute to fairer, more transparent and more inclusive digital futures?

At the intersection of digital cultural mobility, international cultural relations and algorithmic governance, this discussion considered who participates in global cultural exchange, under what conditions and with what visibility. The conversation also considered how digital technologies are redefining cultural mobility beyond physical travel, through virtual residencies, online performances and hybrid format festivals.
