Materahub, in Italy, is looking for one sustainable fashion/accessories designer and one digital fabrication expert from Mediterranean countries to co-create future wearables against climate change. The residency period in Matera is from 28 September to 23 October 2026.
The residency aims to design and produce wearable devices and costumes of various sizes that act as actual ‘shelters’ from urban heat islands, excessive sun, pollution, and other climate change adverse effects. Selected artists will face the challenge of blending Mediterranean symbols, traditions, and knowledge with cutting-edge technologies (such as 3D printing, Arduino, Raspberry, or ESP32), integrating natural fibres with digital manufacturing.
The residency will follow four main phases: exploration with the local community, co-creation and prototyping, production (at Materahub’s Officina Creativa), and final public showcases across the city of Matera.
To form the artistic team, Materahub is selecting two people, who must be from a Mediterranean country: a Sustainable Fashion or Accessories Designer (26–45 years old) and a Digital Fabrication Expert (3D Printing, Arduino, Raspberry, ESP32; 25–30 years old.
Each selected artist will receive:
- Artistic Fee: 1,400 EUR (gross, including VAT and any social security or tax charges).
- Travel & Accommodation Coverage: Up to a maximum of 1,400 EUR
