The point of departure for hybrida.space AIR 2023 is the idea that what an art residency is or how it can operate is not static.
By involving creative individuals that are willing to co-create the residency, hybrida.space aims to work with the following question:
How can we, as a group, set collective goals and self-organise in ways that prioritise both individual creativity and communality?
The whole group will shape the residency programme together, starting with a few preparatory meetings online in which the parameters will be set for the period they will be spending together in Sweden, focusing on these aspects:
- Production of individual art projects.
- Organisation of a communal household.
- Co-defining the curatorial framework and envisioning the final exhibition.
During these meetings, participants will make some decisions together which will inform the structure of the residency. They will live and work on location for 8 weeks, and work towards a final exhibition that will be open to the public for 2 weeks. hybrida.space AIR 2023 will take place between 22 May – 23 July 2023.
Participation in the residency entails taking part in all aspects of its organisation on location. It covers costs for living conditions and housing during the whole period. Note that the housing standards are basic and unrenovated, regarding state and comfort. There will be a varied setup of electrical and handheld tools available on site. For what can’t be made on-site, there is a possibility to use professional workshops in the nearest city (Karlstad, 40 minutes drive).
