Emptyroom: Nature Artist Residency for Artists from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe (Mozambique)

A creative wooden work that looks like a radio, with the text of the call.

Emptyroom in Marracuene, Mozambique, is calling for appliations from visual and multidisciplinary artists from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe.

Provoking experimentation and connection, selected artists work in interdisciplinary teams of two to create a joint project. The project hopes this opportunity brings new ideas, exploration outside of one’s creative comfort zone, and creates connections between resident artists. The artists will have curatorial support from the multidisciplinary artist Gemuce, and the curator Elia Gemuce – Galeria Arte d’Gema.

The residence takes place in two distinct spaces. Part of the time will be in camp, with a shared studio, in the emptyroom.art space in Marracuene – facing the inkomati river, which invites you to slow down and seek a deeper connection and work with and in nature. At other times, artists are hosted in the center of Maputo city, close to the city’s artistic life, with access to a creative space and darkroom.

The residency includes a visit to natural spaces, an artistic portfolio workshop, a guided street art tour, conversations, and more. At the end there will be a display of the final works in Maputo as well as on the emptyroom.art page.

Selected artists will be entitled to accommodation and food, a creative budget as well as travel allowance (up to 600 EUR for internationals, 100 EUR for Mozambicans).
