Art Inside Out invites artists in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland to the residency and production of an exhibition as part of the programme ‘In the wake of the waves’, which takes place outside the coastal town of Varberg in Halland, Sweden, between 10 February and 24 August 2025.
With the starting point in the world heritage Grimeton Radio Station (built in the 1920s, in the aftermath of the First World War, in order to establish a wireless communication link across the Atlantic between Sweden and the United States), the project explores the tumultuous uninterrupted movements of translation that constitutes a complex and fundamental part of human interaction, transnational flows and connections.
Residency and production work is carried out with the following schedule:
- On-site research in Grimeton/Varberg 10–21 February 2025
- Independent work from home during the spring
- On-site stay Grimeton/Varberg and finalising production 5 May–9 June 2025
- Installation 10–14 June 2025
- The artworks are presented in an exhibition and public programme at the World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station and its surroundings between 14 June–24 August 2025
The artists are given the opportunity to work independently and/or together. During the research period of the residency, the artists are offered a programme of meetings with local and invited guests, researchers and experts. Participation in public programmes carried out in connection to the residency and the exhibition is part of the assignment.
Each selected artist receives a fee of 100,000 SEK (excl. VAT, F-taxation, paid by invoice) which includes exhibition and participation compensation. If applicants apply as an artist duo, the joint fee amounts to 130,000 SEK (excl. VAT, F-taxation, paid by invoice).
Art Inside Out offers an individual production budget of 50,000 SEK (excl. VAT) to each chosen artist. The same amount applies to artist duos. There is an additional budget for installation-related costs. Art Inside Out covers overheads such as travel, accommodation, work premises and process management.
