Est-Nord-Est: Visual Artist Residency 2025–2026 (Canada)

Est-Nord-Est residency programme is open to professional visual artists, whether established or emerging, from Québec, Canada, and other countries. The eight-week residencies host four artists per season.

Founded in 1992 and situated in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Québec, near the St. Lawrence River, Est-Nord-Est (ENE) is an artist-run centre for research in contemporary art, and a major actor in the field outside of large cities. Its main objective is to offer an international community of artists and authors space and time for experimentation and privileged access to resources and to a variety of local expertise. The centre promotes the importance of the creative process in contemporary art practices.

Residency dates:

  • Spring: 21 April to 3 June 2025
  • Summer: 7 July to 29 August 2025
  • Winter: 26 January to 20 March 2026

It is expected that artists present his/her approach and research interests at the beginning of the residency at a public event organised by ENE, as well as the research and experiments carried out during the residency at a public event organised by ENE at the end of the residency period. There is the optional possibility to propose a workshop for a youth or community organisation in the region (for which artists are provided with an additional fee of 200 CAD).

The residency includes the following:

  • Residency honorarium of 1,804 CAD
  • Access to an individual studio-workshop to be used for work and lodging
  • Access to specialised equipment (wood, metal, ceramics)
  • Access to a documentation centre (books, magazines)
  • Access to local resources
  • Technical, artistic and logistical support
  • Access to a bicycle in season/occasional local transportation in winter
