Magic Carpets: Residency at Jam Factory Art Center 2026 (Ukraine)

The Creative Europe-funded project Magic Carpets is calling for applications from artists from Creative Europe-eligible countries for a residency in Lviv, Ukraine at the Jam Factory Art Center for 30 days between 1 June and 15 August 2026.

The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine causes lost, left and mined lands on the occupied, de-occupied and pre-frontline territories of Ukraine. Thousands of people who have been forced to leave their homes since 2014, found their way to cope with the loss by ‘reproducing’ their homes on the new lands through seedlings and gardening, which re-creates their familiar set up/ambient, or through the cooking that provoke memories and gives emotional support through social gathering.

The artists are invited to discover everyday practices that make people feel like home through the lenses of their artistic mediums.

For the 2026 project the project is inviting mixed groups of internally displaced people that moved to Lviv since 2014, and the inhabitants of Pidzamche and Znesinnia districts regardless of their status.

This year there is a focus on:

  • Site specific projects, safe spaces for creative activities and social gatherings;
  • Garden-form or land art projects, work with plants;
  • Activities connected to food and cooking;
  • Re-thinking traditional craft making techniques.

The project involved a 7-day research trip to Lviv or online meetings (between 15 April and 15 May) and a presentation of the outcomes and final event (seven days between 15 August and 30 September 2026).
