ASSITEJ: Regional Workshops Ibero-America and the Caribbean (Cuba)

ASSITEJ International is calling for applications from directors, choreographers, playwrights, or performers working in the field of the performing arts for young audiences. The residency is open to artists residing in Ibero-America and the Caribbean and will be held at the 21st ASSITEJ World Congress and Performing Arts Festival, ‘Voices of a New World’, in Havana, Cuba, from 24 May to 2 June 2024. It will provide a powerful networking opportunity and a chance to experience performances from around the world.

Selected participants’ stay in Havana will include participation in the general festival and seminar programme of the World Congress and participation in the ‘Babel Regional Workshop’ designed especially for the participants of the residency. The Babel Regional Workshop will focus on dramaturgy and scene design and will go for approximately 12 hours across 4 days. Participants undertake to attend all the workshop sessions and to share the experience with others in whatever way they consider relevant in their own territories.

Artists working for and with children and young people can apply, including: playwrights, directors, actors, dancers, circus artists, designers, workshop animators, puppeteers, programmers, community activists and others involved in performing arts for children.

Professionals in the above categories residing in Ibero-America and the Caribbean are eligible to apply. This includes the following countries and territories:

Martinique – Mexico – Montserrat – Nicaragua – Paraguay – Panama – Peru – Puerto Rico – Portugal – Saba – Saint Barthélemy – Saint Kitts and Nevis – Saint Lucia – Saint Martin – Saint Vincent and the Grenadines – Saint Eustatius – Saint Martin – Spain – Suriname – Trinidad and Tobago – Turks and Caicos Islands – United States Virgin Islands – Uruguay – Venezuela.

The workshop will be multilingual and is open to participants speaking Spanish, Portuguese, French or English.

Participants will receive accommodation, free registration and tickets for the performances. Those selected from the Americas and the Caribbean may apply for a partial grant for their international travel.
