The Giga-Hertz Prize for electronic music and sound art has been awarded by ZKM | Karlsruhe and the SWR Experimentalstudio since 2007. The award ceremony will happen during the Giga-Hertz Festival 2025, 20-22 November.

The Hertzlab at ZKM (Center for Art and Media) in Karlsruhe (UNESCO City of Media Arts) in collaboration with Heidelberg UNESCO City of Literature Office cordially invites poets from UNESCO Cities of Literature worldwide to apply for its new residency programme from 1 September to 30 November 2025.

ZKM (Center for Art and Media) in Karlsruhe, in partnership with Cairotronica and the Goethe-Institutes in North Africa and the Middle East, invites applications from artists in Arabic-speaking countries for a residency programme designed for visual and new media artists working on the intersection of art, society, nature and technology.

With ‘Sonic Experiments’, the ZKM | Hertz-Lab awards scholarships for composers with a focus area in the field of electronic music and sound art as part of its artist-in-residency programme. The duration of the residency for realising the production at ZKM | Karlsruhe should be 4 weeks. Possible dates for the residencies are between mid-September and the presentation at the end of October 2023.

ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and the Deutsches Museum invite international artists to submit innovative project proposals at the intersection of art and artificial intelligence (AI) and apply for a two-part artist residency at both institutions as part of the project ‘The Intelligent Museum’. The residency will take place 6 January - 24 February 2023.

The Giga-Hertz Award endows two Production Prizes through an open application process. These support sound artists to initiate and promote new projects by giving them financial support and time to work at the ZKM | Hertz-Lab in Karlsruhe or the SWR Experimentalstudio. The working stay should last at least two months at the ZKM | Hertz_Lab or two to four weeks at the SWR Experimentalstudio. The new work is then expected to premiere the following year during the award ceremony of the Giga-Hertz Prize, and possibly be broadcast on radio.

For the second time the ZKM and the KME Karlsruhe Marketing and Event Ltd. will present the international BBBank Newcomer Projection Mapping Prize at the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe 2022. The winner will realise their projection mapping concept for the SCHLOSSLICHSTPIELE Karlsruhe 2022.

C3: Codes, Creativity, Communities invites applications from artists, musicians, film-makers, writers, coders, and creative cultural practitioners from all fields. During this year-long engagement participants will take part in regular online meet-ups, brainstorming sessions, workshops, and impulse sessions. The programme focuses on creators in the regions of South Asia, Tehran and Germany.

The ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, the High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) and the Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg call on international media artists and scientists to submit innovative collaborative project proposals to apply for a one-month remote residency.

From 2020 to 2023, the scientific and artistic collaboration Driving the Human is developing and producing seven tangible prototypes responding to complex contemporary scenarios. Designers, artists, scientists, initiatives, and agents from any other field of expertise, from anywhere in the world, are invited to submit proposals for projects that critically engage with the present. 21 proposals will be selected to present in Berlin 15-17 October 2021, with 7 then chosen for further development.
