    The project ‘Genesis of an Artistic Fact’ brings together scientists and artists by opening scientists to the artistic process and artists to scientific knowledge. Artists are invited to apply for a residency at the TRAFO, a new innovation laboratory for contemporary art forms and media in Jena, Germany, with activities focused in the periods 19 July – 1 August 2021 and 20 September - 3 October 2021.

  • News / ESS – European Spallation Source Residency, ‘Nanocosmic Investigations’ (Online)

    European Spallation Source is a large-scale international research facility being built on the outskirts of Lund. It is inviting artists to apply for a virtual residency that will see them in conversation with engineers and scientists working at ESS. Artists can bring their own questions, ideas and projects but the residency is also open to pure exploration. Activities will take place June – November 2021.

  • News / Ginko Bioworks: Ginkgo Creative Residency for Art and Synthetic Biology (USA / Remote)

    A joint initiative spearheaded and curated by Ginkgo Bioworks and design agency Faber Futures, the Ginkgo Creative Residency (GCR) provides an experimental platform for creative thinkers to explore both the potential and implications of synthetic biology. The next residency will run from 1 September – 30 November 2021, and can take place in-person or remotely.

  • News / Science Gallery Venice: Earth Water Sky Residency – Earth (Italy)

    Earth Water Sky environmental science and arts residency programme are looking for an artist from any discipline who is truly inspired by thinking about time and connecting the geology of our Earth to humankind. The artist must also enjoy the research process as well as public engagement and be able to create imaginative, extraordinary new work which captures the public’s attention, senses, minds and hearts. The selected artist will undertake a two-month residency, after which they can bid for a production fund to realise a full artwork.

  • News / Production Research Grants for Art-Science-Technology Projects (Spain)

    The Institut Ramon Llull, New Art Foundation, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), La Caldera and Hangar open a call for five grants for the production-research of artistic pieces in the field of the confluence between art, science and technology. The development of the projects will have the means, advice and workspace of the Hangar Interaction Lab in Barcelona, Spain. The development of the projects will have, optionally, a residency process and/or advice in one of the research centers attached to the call through Hac Te. Artists, researchers and developers of any age and nationality can apply for these grants. Dates for activities vary but take place within 2021.

  • News / Embassy of Foreign Artists: Residency Programme 2022

    The Embassy of Foreign Artists, a residency programme in Geneva, is launching a series of calls for themed projects, open to all types of practice. There are three themes artists can apply for: 'Art and Citizenship: Looking at the world with a critical eye', 'Art and Science: Exploring scientific issues through art', and 'Art and Stories: Giving form to archives'. Residency periods are available in blocks throughout 2021, lasting three or six months.

  • News / STARTS / KIKK: Residency at the Astronomical Observatory of UNamur (Belgium)

    The STARTS Horizon 2020 research & innovation programme in collaboration with the association KIKK, which promotes digital and creative cultures at the crossroads of art, culture, science and technology, are launching an Art & Science residency programme at the UNamur (University of Namur) Astronomical Observatory in Belgium. Two artists and/or collectives will be hosted from 7 June – 10 July 2021. The programme is aimed at artists with an interest in a transdisciplinary approach and an attraction for science and fundamental research.

  • News / Pro Helvetia: Connect South Africa (South Africa / Switzerland)

    Connect South Africa will grant a funded residency to one artist from Switzerland and one artist from Southern, East or West Africa, with residency activities split between CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva and the array of optical and radio astronomy observatories across rural and urban South Africa. Connect South Africa invites submissions from artists with a distinct interest in an interdisciplinary approach, and a keen engagement with scientific thinking and fundamental science.

  • News / Bioart Society: ‘M/other Becomings’ Open Call (Finland)

    M/other becomings is a collaboration between Laboratory for Aesthetics and Ecology (DK), The Association for Arts and Mental Health (DK), Kultivator (SE), Art Lab Gnesta (SE), and Bioart Society (FI). This open call is searching for artwork production proposals that explore reproductive futures and how life sciences transform and challenge our ideas and possibilities of reproduction and the maternal. The final work will be included in the m/other becomings exhibition during spring 2022 in Helsinki. Artists, researchers and practitioners can apply as individuals or as working groups.

    Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden is open for applications for a six-month residency starting in 2022. The the central topic is 'Artificial intelligence (AI) as factor and consequence of societal and cultural change'. Projects should focus on the interface between art and science, explicitly artistic intelligence and its implications for society and the culture of objects. The residency addresses artists from the fields of media art, conceptual art, performance, etc. Deadline: 10 May 2021.

    Broto: Art-Climate-Science is an emerging art-sci collaboration conference and community pointed at successful climate endgames. The transdisciplinary organisation is asking for proposals for a single paid collaboration team. Each team must include at least one of each of the following – artist, scientist and observer – who will work together on a new project to test Broto’s Collaboration Blueprint.

    From 2020 to 2023, the scientific and artistic collaboration Driving the Human is developing and producing seven tangible prototypes responding to complex contemporary scenarios.     NAM – Not a Museum presents SUPERBLAST, a call to the arts for creative and experimental artistic production with an interdisciplinary approach that will be held at Manifattura Tabacchi in Florence, Italy. SUPERBLAST seeks artists who want to freely develop their research to create site-specific works, while conducting an interdisciplinary and educational dialogue with critics, curators, and scientists. The progamme is open to individual artists and artist collectives under 40 years of age.
