    The Embassy of Foreign Artists, a residency programme in Geneva, is launching a series of calls for themed projects, open to all types of practice. There are three themes artists can apply for: 'Art and Citizenship: Looking at the world with a critical eye', 'Art and Science: Exploring scientific issues through art', and 'Art and Stories: Giving form to archives'. Residency periods are available in blocks throughout 2021, lasting three or six months.

  • News / Open Call for Caravan Residency Programme: Thinking with Alexandria (Italy, Egypt, France, Greece, Cyprus, Belgium, Italy)

    The Caravan Residency Programme is a year-long multi-city residency that invites artists, cultural practitioners, and activists to articulate and configure new modes of relating to and understanding urban, infrastructural, and social processes and formations. Residency activities take place from October 2021 – July 2022. Applications are open to emerging to mid-career artists in any discipline who reside in EU and a number of neighbouring countries.

  • News / Call for Entries for NTAA – New Technological Art Award (Belgium)

    The New Technological Art Award (NTAA) tries to fill in a gap in the mainstream art world by paying attention to the technological developments that drive our global culture. This international competition is open to all age groups and to all nationalities. Artists can present their candidacy for one art work less than two years old at the time of its submission, but which may already have been exhibited. Selected works will be shown 5 February – 13 March 2022 at the Liedts-Meesen Foundation in Ghent.

  • News / Open Call for Artists and Scholars for Residency on Legacy of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish (France, Palestine, Belgium)

    Mahmoud Darwish Chair, Bozar, A. M. Qattan Foundation, Camargo Foundation and Mucem join forces for an open call honouring the legacy of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. Selected applicants will undertake a 4-week residency in one of three locations – Camargo / Mucem in France, A. M. Qattan Foundation in Palestine, and Bozar / Darwish Chair in Belgium – from July 2021 to July 2022. Applications are welcome from all countries and nationalities that compose the MENA Region and its Diaspora.

  • News / Open Call for International Theatre, Art and New Technologies Festival, ‘The Wonders of Possible’ (Italy)

    Organised by Kyber Theatre, the 8th Edition of the International Theatre, Art and New Technologies Festival ‘The Wonders of Possible’ will take place in Cagliari, Italy between November and December 2021. The current open call, addressed to Italian and international artists, is for projects on the topic of ‘Interaction between arts and technology’. Two winners will be selected, with one place open to artists and companies of any nationality or age, and a second place open to emerging companies/groups (maximum of 3 people) and individual artists under 35.

  • News / Festival LABVERDE: Call for Amazonian Women Artists (Switzerland)

    To contribute to the ongoing prominence of Amazonian female art in the international context, CULTURESCAPES in partnership with Festival LABVERDE is offering a three-month residency in Basel, Switzerland, between August and October 2021. Female and LGBTQIA+ artists from different fields and cultural backgrounds who are from the Amazonian Region (Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guianas) and have a solid level of English are welcome to apply.

  • News / Urban Festival UIT: Open Call for Installations, ‘Parasitic Architecture’ (Estonia)

    Urban Festival UIT in Tartu, Estonia is inviting proposals for installations on the theme of ‘Parasitic Architecture’. Applicants will propose installation 'urban parasites' that use already existing structures as their base. The open call is mainly addressed to students of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, installation, and sculpture, but all others interested in public space are more than welcome to participate.

  • News / STARTS / KIKK: Residency at the Astronomical Observatory of UNamur (Belgium)

    The STARTS Horizon 2020 research & innovation programme in collaboration with the association KIKK, which promotes digital and creative cultures at the crossroads of art, culture, science and technology, are launching an Art & Science residency programme at the UNamur (University of Namur) Astronomical Observatory in Belgium. Two artists and/or collectives will be hosted from 7 June – 10 July 2021. The programme is aimed at artists with an interest in a transdisciplinary approach and an attraction for science and fundamental research.

  • News / Goethe-Institut: READ Residency Programme (North Macedonia, Albania, Turkey, Serbia, Kosovo)

    READ - Regional Network for Cultural Diversity's residency programme is aimed at writers, translators, playwrights, poets, illustrators, graphic novel artists and comic book writers. Eligible applicants will have published at least two books/works of their own or at least two translations, and must be residents of one of the following countries: North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Albania or Kosovo. Young and emerging authors are welcomed as well as established and experienced ones. Residencies last up to a month and will take place from May – December 2021.

  • News / BEGEHUNGEN 2021: Open Call for LEERZEIT, ‘Idle Time’ (Germany)

    Under the freely interpretable title LEERZEIT (‘idle time’), the festival BEGEHUNGEN 2021 is calling for submissions of existing artistic works or of projects/concepts for a four-week residence in Chemnitz, Germany. The festival will take place 12-15 August 2021 at the city's former Altendorf Freight Station.

    In order to support the vitality of screendance production, La Briqueterie - National Choreographic Development Center of Val-de-Marne in collaboration with l'Adami, have launched an international Screendance Production Residency to support the creation of a short film. Two projects will be selected - one French, one international. French artist(s) will be hosted in Freiburg, Germany at Theatre Freiburg. The international recipient(s) will be hosted at La Place de la Danse - National Choreographic Development Center in Toulouse, France.

    The project JaWo Music Residencies will invite 20 emerging musicians/authors connected to the European jazz / world music scene to take part in a programme of online training and exchange, as well as a physical residency in Benevento, Italy, from April 2021 - March 2022.     The Defrosting project (part of Moving Classics: Sonic Flux) is an opportunity for a musician, composer or sound artist to create the audio for a 10-13 minute film during a residency in Svalbard, Norway in 2021. The piece will respond to themes of displacement and climate change. Applications are open to artists of any UK/EU/EEA nationality living and working in Scotland.

    The eighth edition of Dancing on the Edge Festival will take place in spring 2022, online and offline. The organisers are looking for contemporary dance and theatre performances as well as multimedia and performance installations / films / artworks / artistic research / podcasts and so on.     AiR Vesterålen is a comprehensive artist residency programme for five municipalities in the Vesterålen islands, Norway. There are five residencies, in different locations and with different themes, which take place at different periods through the year. The first is in Bø with a theme of 'Art/Nature/Play'. Applications are welcomed from artists of all disciplines who live and work in Europe (EU, EEA and UK).
