Mophradat has partnered with Nyege Nyege Villa in Kampala to provide a residency for a composer/s (with up to two collaborators) or a band comprised of maximum three musicians from the Arab world to spend focused time working on a specific project, creating new compositions, or exploring and researching new ideas. The residency will take place over ten days in April-May 2022.

The EU-funded project Euro-Egyptian Cultural Programme (EECP) is launching a call for European artists to join a residency programme in Egypt working with Egyptian independent cultural actors.

The Moniack Mhor International Writers’ Residency in Scotland will take place over one month in March 2022. Six mid-career / established international writers and three Scottish (UK-based) writers, working in poetry, prose, non-fiction, playwriting, or songwriting, will be given time and space to develop their work. Three residents will also have the opportunity to LIPFEST, the Lagos International Poetry Festival in October 2022.

The WARC Travel Grant promotes intra-African cooperation and exchange among researchers and institutions by providing support to African scholars and graduate students for research visits to other institutions and regions on the continent.

Now in its fifth edition, the New Dimensions Lab brings together diverse African artists to develop stories told through creative technology alongside leading industry mentors. This year the Lab will take on a hybrid format with 12 physical and 6 virtual applicants, running 26 February – 6 March 2022. Applicants should be citizens or permanent residents of an African country and currently living on the African continent.

The Visionary Award is calling for submissions from practitioners who are currently conceptualising new bodies of work across the extended field of lens-based mediums. The winning applicant will receive a cash award to support a residency at the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria. Entrants need to be 40 years or younger during the year of their submission, and should live and work on the African continent at the time of entry.

From 1 December 2021, L’Art Rue and MitOst are looking for a full-time Assistant Coordinator who will be be based in Tunis, at the L’Art Rue office in Dar Bach Hamba, and work on the project ‘Thaqafa Daayer Maydoor / All-Around Culture’.

Dance Base Scotland and Ecole des Sables Senegal unite to create Source, an exchange project celebrating African Contemporary practice through Germaine Acogny’s Technique. Artists based in Scotland can apply for the eight-month programme, which includes a digital exchange from September 2021 - April 2022, as well as a 2-3 week in-person residency at Ecole des Sables in Senegal in May 2022.

The Bag Factory Artist Residency will enable an emerging visual artist based in Botswana, Namibia, Uganda, Zambia, or Zimbabwe to undertake a fully funded residency at the Bag Factory in Johannesburg from 1 September to 30 November 2021.

Le Fonds de mobilité «Culture au Sahel» soutient la mobilité à l’intérieur de la zone du G5 Sahel, et en direction de la Côte d’Ivoire et du Sénégal. «Culture au Sahel» est ouvert aux artistes et aux professionnels de la culture résidant dans l’un des 5 pays du G5 Sahel : Burkina-Faso, Mali, Mauritanie, Niger et Tchad. La période et la durée de la mobilité sont à la libre appréciation du candidat mais la mobilité doit être effectuée avant le 31 janvier 2022.

Huza Press and Goethe-Institut Kigali are collaborating to provide a four-week writers’ residency in Kigali (Rwanda) in September 2021. The theme is ‘Writing Gender’. The purpose is to support writers as they complete or make significant advances with a work-in-progress novel manuscript. The programme is open to writers from African countries (except Rwanda) and German-speaking countries.
