transmediale, in collaboration with one local and three international partners, is calling for applications for 2025 residents.
The transmediale residency programme offers researchers, artists, theorists, practitioners, and activists the opportunity for a two-month hybrid residency, taking place on-site in Berlin and remotely. This hybrid format will take place over two months remotely and on-site in Berlin at transmediale studio between May and July 2025. The residencies aim to foster further research on already existing projects or to develop new projects in the fields of media studies, science and technology studies, media art and theory, art criticism, or digital art and moving image practices.
There are four residency strands available:
- Digital Art Residency in cooperation with Pro Helvetia for two Swiss or Switzerland-based artists (working in digital art practices, design, sound, media theory)
- transmediale x ARKO Residency in cooperation with ARKO for one Korean artist, based in Korea or elsewhere (working in digital art and moving image practices, design, sound, and media theory)
- Vilém Flusser Residency for Artistic Research in cooperation with Universität der Künste Berlin for one artist based in Berlin (working in digital art and moving image practices, design, sound, and media theory)
- transmediale x Chile Residency in cooperation with Ministry of the Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile and DIRAC – Division for Cultures, Arts, Heritage and Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile for one Chilean artist, based in Chile or elsewhere (working in art, science, new media, and technology)
The two-month residency will be awarded with an artist fee of 1,500 EUR per residency month (2,500 EUR per month in the case of the Digital Art stream), and travel and accommodation support for the festival and residency (for the Chile, ARCO and Digital Art streams). Applications from duos or collectives are considered, however the fee remains the same and needs to be split accordingly.
