Initiated by the French Ministry of Culture and DRAC Grand Est, the Fabrique d'Europe (‘Making of Europe’) project will organise a series of ten-week residencies for research, experimentation and creation from January – July 2022. Under the programme, young European arts and culture graduates (graduated after 2010) will work with high school students from rural and peri-urban areas to share the act of creation. Mystetskyi Arsenal / Austrian Cultural Forum Kyiv > Ukrainian-Austrian Art Residency (Ukraine / Online)
The Ukrainian-Austrian Art Residency invites visual artists from Ukraine and Lower Austria to participate in the Temporary Un/Availability programme. Participating artists will analyse how the study of the digital image expands visionary possibilities and provokes the creation of poetic language. The residency will be held in a hybrid format: online, 1 July - 26 August 2021; and offline, 19-23 September 2021 in Kyiv. Deadline: 31 May 2021.
Alexandria: (Re)activating Common Urban Imaginaries: Nomadic Mediterranean Residency Programme, Politics of Heritage - School for sonic memory (Greece, Egypt, France)
(Re)activating Common Urban Imaginaries is a pluri-disciplinary nomadic residency programme exploring sound, memory and trans-Mediterranean resonances. There will be three week-long creative residencies: Athens, November 2021; Alexandria, January 2022; Marseille, March 2022. Applications are open to individuals engaged in the study, protection or production of collective urban memory who reside in EU and a number of neighbouring countries. Deadline: 30 May 2021.
Sound Art Lab (SAL) is a new centre for artistic development in sound located in the City of Sound, Struer in Denmark. They offer two residencies during 2021, each lasting three months, preferably starting from late August / early September. Residency projects should result in a public exhibition/performance/presentation. Deadline: 6 June 2021.
HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme invites Nordic and Baltic art practitioners to apply for residencies in HIAP Suomenlinna in autumn 2021 and spring and summer 2022. The HIAP Residency Programme focuses on visual art but is open for art professionals from other disciplines as well. Applicants should reside in the Nordic-Baltic region (except Finland). Open Call for Caravan Residency Programme: Thinking with Alexandria (Italy, Egypt, France, Greece, Cyprus, Belgium, Italy)
The Caravan Residency Programme is a year-long multi-city residency that invites artists, cultural practitioners, and activists to articulate and configure new modes of relating to and understanding urban, infrastructural, and social processes and formations. Residency activities take place from October 2021 – July 2022. Applications are open to emerging to mid-career artists in any discipline who reside in EU and a number of neighbouring countries. Deadline: 30 May 2021.
The New Technological Art Award (NTAA) tries to fill in a gap in the mainstream art world by paying attention to the technological developments that drive our global culture. This international competition is open to all age groups and to all nationalities. Artists can present their candidacy for one art work less than two years old at the time of its submission, but which may already have been exhibited. Selected works will be shown 5 February – 13 March 2022 at the Liedts-Meesen Foundation in Ghent. Deadline: 31 August 2021.
Open Call for Artists and Scholars for Residency on Legacy of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish (France, Palestine, Belgium)
Mahmoud Darwish Chair, Bozar, A. M. Qattan Foundation, Camargo Foundation and Mucem join forces for an open call honouring the legacy of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. Selected applicants will undertake a 4-week residency in one of three locations – Camargo / Mucem in France, A. M. Qattan Foundation in Palestine, and Bozar / Darwish Chair in Belgium – from July 2021 to July 2022. Applications are welcome from all countries and nationalities that compose the MENA Region and its Diaspora. Deadline: 13 June 2021.
Open Call for International Theatre, Art and New Technologies Festival, ‘The Wonders of Possible’ (Italy)
Organised by Kyber Theatre, the 8th Edition of the International Theatre, Art and New Technologies Festival ‘The Wonders of Possible’ will take place in Cagliari, Italy between November and December 2021. The current open call, addressed to Italian and international artists, is for projects on the topic of ‘Interaction between arts and technology’. Participation is open to artists under the age of 35 working individually and emerging companies/groups with a maximum of 3 people. Deadline: 1 July 2021.
To contribute to the ongoing prominence of Amazonian female art in the international context, CULTURESCAPES in partnership with Festival LABVERDE is offering a three-month residency in Basel, Switzerland, between August and October 2021. Female and LGBTQIA+ artists from different fields and cultural backgrounds who are from the Amazonian Region (Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guianas) and have a solid level of English are welcome to apply. Urban Festival UIT in Tartu, Estonia is inviting proposals for installations on the theme of ‘Parasitic Architecture’. Applicants will propose installation 'urban parasites' that use already existing structures as their base. The open call is mainly addressed to students of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, installation, and sculpture, but all others interested in public space are more than welcome to participate. The STARTS Horizon 2020 research & innovation programme in collaboration with the association KIKK, which promotes digital and creative cultures at the crossroads of art, culture, science and technology, are launching an Art & Science residency programme at the UNamur (University of Namur) Astronomical Observatory in Belgium. Two artists and/or collectives will be hosted from 7 June – 10 July 2021. The programme is aimed at artists with an interest in a transdisciplinary approach and an attraction for science and fundamental research. Deadline: 17 May 2021.

Under the freely interpretable title LEERZEIT (‘idle time’), the festival BEGEHUNGEN 2021 is calling for submissions of existing artistic works or of projects/concepts for a four-week residence in Chemnitz, Germany. The International Society for the Performing Arts’ (ISPA) Netherlands Fellowship provides three-year access to ISPA’s extensive international network of arts professionals to three mid-career leaders from the Netherlands’ performing arts community and one mid-career leader from performing arts communities in Egypt, Morocco, Russia, Turkey, or South Africa.
