There is currently a lot of discussion about how it is possible to revitalise rural regions. An important goal of the ‘Collision of Arts’ residency is to establish a creative scene in the small town of Bischofswerda in order to build up a permanent network. In order to counteract the politically precarious situation in East Saxony in particular, the cultural revitalisation of small cities such as Bischofswerda is an essential concern.
During the Collision of Arts residency, artists from the region, Germany as a whole, the Czech Republic, Poland, and other parts of Europe will meet to live, work together and inspire each other for two weeks. Different people, disciplines and styles collide.
National and international freelance artists and students from all areas of the visual and performing arts are eligible to participate.
The East Club in Bischofswerda serves as a common work space. This offers enough space to work together and to provide everyone with their own work area. There are also overnight accommodations with shared living and sleeping arrangements. But of course you shouldn’t just work shut away in a quiet room: it is particularly important that you get to know the region and its citizens. The impressions gained are then processed in artistic work. With this in mind, hikes and visits to the gallery are undertaken and residents will take care of hot meals in the evening.
The artists will live and work together from 30 August – 12 September 2021. The closing event will take place on 12 September 2021. The whole city should and can be used as a work surface.
Selected participants are supported with a varied programme during the residency, free accommodation and a fee of 400€.
