Kine Úsmev: Artist Residencies 2024–25 (Slovakia)

A graphic with Open Call and other text.

Kino Úsmev announces an open call for applications for one-month artistic residencies in Košice, Slovakia, to take place between 10 April 2024 and 15 February 2025.

Kino Úsmev has been building an audiovisual cultural centre for the support of creation, production and research in the field of film art. The main activities include film screenings, festivals, but also cultural and educational events such as concerts, exhibitions, lectures, literary readings and workshops. To a large extent, they focus on creating programming for youth, seniors and various socially excluded and disadvantaged groups.

The residencies are intended for emerging and established artists from Slovakia or abroad working in various creative industries (e.g. film, theatre, dance, music, literature, design, architecture). The purpose is to provide them with facilities and connections with the local cultural and creative industry.

The project that the residents will work on during their stay in Košice should be related to film art or at least have an overlap with it – it can be the creation of a work inspired by the film, the preparation of a performance with elements of the film, a script, or others. The call is not thematically limited, but the topics of inclusion, education, urban development and innovation are very relevant for Kino Úsmev. At the end of the residency, the resident will present their output in a public event in the form of a masterclass or exhibition as agreed with the residency coordinators.

The residency includes a scholarship of 600 EUR, accommodation, reimbursement of travel expenses (return trip from/to the place of permanent residence up to 150 EUR), and technical and production support.
