Institute for Electronic Arts: Experimental Research Residency in New Media (USA)

Text of the call on a dark background.

The Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA), a high-technology research studio facility within the School of Art and Design, NYSCC, Alfred University, New York, is calling for applications for the New Media residency.

Residents will be expected to engage with the Alfred University campus and communities which extend to Allegany County and the Western New York, Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions of New York. This engagement is often in the form of a public lecture/artist talk, a demonstration, course-specific involvement, or another agreed-upon event.

The organisers ask that all residents leave sample images and copies of work produced during their residency period for the IEA archive. The archive serves as an extensive educational resource for students and future residents.

All residencies are made possible by The National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, and the Schein-Joseph Endowment.

The New Media Residency is open to national and international applications, as well as group applications. Students enrolled during the residency period are not eligible to apply. Successful applicants are responsible for their own visas (if necessary). The IEA will provide a supporting letter to each successful candidate.

This two-week residency programme covers the following:

  • 2,000 USD stipend
  • housing (within short walking distance)
  • travel support (case-by-case basis)
  • materials support (case-by-case basis)
  • 24/7 building/studio access
