Fak’ugesi Festival’s Digital SUPERPOWER! Lab is looking for creatives in London, Bulawayo and Johannesburg to join in a supported laboratory in September 2021. Outcomes will be presented at Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival 2021 #BuildCozYouHaveTo.
Digital SUPERPOWER! aims to empower womxn and the LGBQT community (often most vulnerable in the inner city and Southern African communities) to express their relationship with the city and their environment.
- Use a custom gesture based data collection technology developed by creative technologist Ling Tan to explore and collect data surrounding their own and their communities’ experiences of gender safety in the urban centres of London, Bulawayo and Johannesburg.
- Work online to compare and explore their findings across 3 cities.
- Be guided in ways to map, visualise and narrativise their individual and collective data and findings in their own artistic medium (e.g graphic design, data visualisation, performance, photography, storytelling, poetry, etc).
5 participants (aged 18-24) from London, Bulwayo and Johannesburg (15 in total) will be selected, and together will produce a single digital urban scenery as an interactive animation that will be presented at Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival online in October 2021.
Participants will receive a participation fee of £133 and funds to cover data for online engagements.
