Emmanuel College: Artist Residencies in Ceramics, Photography, Printmaking and Social Practice 2025 (USA)

Emmanuel’s six-week Artist in Residence programme supports a diverse group of artists, providing time and space for established and emerging artists to develop their work from mid-June to late-July 2025.

The Art Department specifically aims to award a residency to one individual from each of the four categories: ceramics, photography, printmaking and social practice. Fostering creative and artistic excellence, the residency also plays an important role in advancing the visual arts in the Emmanuel community.

An Art Department studio manager will be available throughout the residency to assist artists with the logistics of the residency.  In return, artists contribute to the Emmanuel community through occasional interactions with Emmanuel faculty, staff, and students, and through the single work that each artist donates to Emmanuel College at the completion of their residency. Occasional opportunities for community building with the Emmanuel community may be organised by the Art Department.

Artists must devote three hours to Emmanuel’s summer art history course, Contemporary Art and Artistic Practice, discussing their own process.

The programme provides the following

  • A stipend of 1,500 USD
  • International artists may be eligible for reimbursement for travel and visa expenses up to an additional 1,000 USD.
  • Lodging is provided in the college dorms, with access to a small kitchen.
  • Artists may be invited back for a presentation during the following academic year based on teaching needs.
  • Residents have access to communal college studio facilities with ample space sharing – ceramics, wood shop, print shop, photo studio, darkroom, design lab and drawing studios.
  • Emmanuel will host an on campus closing exhibition for all resident artists to participate in.
