Denk-und Produktionsort Libken: ‘Into the Fields’ Residency for Artists from Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland (Germany)

A long four-story building with blue, cloudy sky.

Denk-und Produktionsort Libken grants five two-month residency scholarships to artists from Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland who live and work in the countryside or mainly engage with rural environments in their artistic practice. The residency will take place from 1 March to 30 April 2025 in Libken, on the outskirts of the 80-inhabitant village of Böckenberg, around 100 km north-east of Berlin.

The aim of the residency programme is to engage in an exchange between artists with different disciplines, cultural backgrounds and artistic practices, to deepen one’s own work and to reflect on its specific conditions.

The two-month program ‘into the fields’ is accompanied and framed by a kick-off weekend, as well as by four group work meetings, moderated inputs and studio visits spread over the residency period. Next to supporting the individual working projects, the programme encourages the artists to use the international group as a space of resonance and a performative resource. In this way, the focus shifts to practicing forms of communal living, collaboration and sharing as a means to participation, indispensable in a time of political shift to the right and of economic uncertainty.

Applicants must be professional artists, age 18+ who are residents in Germany, the Czech Republic or Poland. The organisers are looking for artists who live in rural areas or whose artistic practice focuses primarily on rural areas. The common working language within the residency programme is English.

The residency provides a fee of 25 EUR/day per artist (1,550 EUR in total), costs for travelling to and from Libken (350 EUR–700 EUR, air travel is not covered), top-ups (for family support and disability support), accommodation, and studio space.
