Baroque Orchestration X: Baroque Orchestration X-Y-Z Residency for Europe-based Musicians (Belgium)

Musicians on a stage.

B.OX. (Baroque Orchestration X), a hybrid baroque band creating genre-bending new sounds, is calling for applications from Europe-based singers and instrumentalists for their residency at Casa Saga, Antwerp, Belgium, from 21 October to 15 November 2024.

During the residency period, participants will work on material from the oeuvre of B.O.X, in close collaboration with the mentors. In addition, participants will propose a working subject of their own choice, which relates to the artistic trajectory of B.O.X, or which can otherwise be linked to the above-stated objectives. Ideally, the participant’s work will be transformed, expanded or enhanced through the B.O.X approach. The programme strongly encourages participants to be ambitious: this is an opportunity to embrace blue-sky/dream collaborations and projects. They encourage the participants to push themselves outside of what they already know and are familiar with.

In total, five individual participants will be selected. (N.B.: It is possible to apply as a group of individuals that are already working together, if the application corresponds to the objectives of the residency.)

Participants must be over 18 years old, but born after 1984, and be legal residents of one of the Creative Europe Countries. Participants must be professionally active singers or instrumentalists, ideally with a specialisation (through education or experience) in early music. However, this call is not limited to period musicians: artists with little to no background in early music, but with a vested interest in this residency opportunity are also welcome. Affinity (and/or practical experience) with non-classical musical genres is a plus, as are improvisation skills, curiosity for cultural exchange and experimentation, etc.

The residency provides a travel allowance (350–700 EUR), a daily allowance (25 EUR), accommodation and top-ups (for sustainable travel, travel from Overseas Countries and Territories or Outermost Regions, visa fees, family support and disability support).
