GMEA > Residency for Musicians and Ensembles (France)
The GMEA – National Center for Music Creation of Albi-Tarn was founded in 1981. Among eight other centres in France, it is part of a network certified by the French Ministry of Culture. A leading organisation for musical creation in Occitanie, the GMEA welcomes ensembles and musicians for rehearsals, research, experiments and recordings.
Accessible to all contemporary sound and experimental musical practices, the GMEA accompanies the emergence of new musical forms coming from written, improvised, instrumental, electroacoustic or electronic music.
The centre welcomes musicians or ensembles for one-week residency sessions to permit creation, recording, or research. During these residencies, artists enjoy technical, logistical and administrative support, and have access to the centre’s network (artists, professionals, resource centres, broadcasting structures), which could be helpful for the development of their project.
The centre provides a workspace and a technical and administrative team available for the selected artists according to their needs. These residencies take place in the GMEA (studios and rehearsal room), or on the premises of the GMEA’s partners (Scène Nationale d’Albi, Maison de la Musique / Cap Découverte, Musée du Saut du Tarn, Ville d’Albi, Théâtre Le Colombier, Abbaye-école de Sorèze).
The centre covers the costs of travel for artists to Albi (France and Europe), the accommodation, and meal costs for the time of residency. Payment of an additional financial support for production could be considered depending on each project. In agreement with the artists, the centre regularly organises times for meeting to introduce audiences to experimental practices.
Residencies can take place between January and December 2022.
Deadline: 31 May 2021
