Lingnan University > Artist in Residence (Hong Kong)

The curriculum of the Department of Visual Studies (VS) at Lingnan University emphasises the history, theory and expression of visual arts and material culture in China, East Asia and the West. It also offers experiential, object- and skill-based learning through fieldtrips, studio practice, curatorial training and internships. VS admits about 30 undergraduate majors and a small number of MPhil and PhD students per academic year.

Launched in 2006, the Artist-in-Residence Programme brings students into contact with a range of art and film practitioners with expertise in multiple areas, such as filmmaking, ceramics, drawing, painting, photography and new media. A considerable number of artists from Hong Kong and abroad were invited to teach studio arts for undergraduate students, provide consultation, give public talks and organise exhibitions or film screenings together with Lingnan students.

The University is currently seeking non-local artists who wish to be in residence during the spring semester of 2021.

Applicants should have an MFA degree or related qualifications and strong track records of creative practice, art projects and international awards. They should also have a passion for nurturing students’ interest in visual and media arts. During the period of residency, 8 January to 31 May 2021, the visiting artist will teach a 3-credit studio course in his/her area of expertise, deliver public talk(s), develop new project(s), and supervise students to produce works for inclusion in a group exhibition or a film screening. The visiting artist is also expected to make use of the Jonathan KS Choi Art Studio at the University as the primary site for artistic production and class consultation.

The remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund and incoming passage allowance for the eligible appointee. On-campus accommodation will be provided, as appropriate. A large, light multi-purpose Art Studio suitable for ceramics, painting and other kinds of artistic production will also be provided. The Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery of Lingnan University, among other venues, is available to showcase completed works.

Deadline: 30 September 2020
