Wits School of Arts > Arts Research Africa Postdoctoral Fellowship (South Africa)
The Wits School of Arts is inviting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship, which will be awarded by the Arts Research Africa project under a prestigious grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to advance arts research in the WSOA. The postdoctoral fellowship will begin in September 2020 and last for one year. The value of the Fellowship is R200,000 (~10,000 EUR) per year. WSOA particularly encourage applications from candidates who have an interdisciplinary focus in their arts research.
Depending on the nature of your research, the successful recipient of the ARA postdoctoral fellowship will be expected to produce at least two peer-reviewed publications during the year of the residency (or the creative research equivalent, or a combination of publication(s) and creative work). Ideally, the research should be published in journals that are found in the ISS index of journals. If there is a particular reason why it is more appropriate to publish the work in local journals, then they should be journals ‘accredited’ with the DHET.
The recipient of the fellowship is also expected to contribute to the research ethos of the Wits School of Arts. This contribution may involve participation in the School’s journal of creative research (www.ellipses.org.za), postgraduate supervision, and participation in seminars, symposia, and colloquia in the School’s Arts Research Africa programme.
Applications are open internationally, but the fellow will have to base themselves in Johannesburg during the period of the fellowship.
Deadline: 30 June 2020
