Zentrum Gedankendach > ‘Two Roots’ Research Project for Artists from Germany and Ukraine (Ukraine)
Zentrum Gedankendach (a cultural centre in Chernivtsi, Ukraine) is looking for 16 artists from Germany and Ukraine to meet up for a two-week retreat (6-21 September 2020) and develop a multi-perspective answer to a question: ‘What have we lost to find?’
You will be invited to explore natural and urban space through a combination of diverse artistic disciplines, as well as from the perspective of two different cultural backgrounds. Within the mutual workflow, you will develop and incorporate the creative outcome into a one-day interdisciplinary exhibition in Chernivtsi city.
During the first 9 days, in the middle of Ukrainian Carpathian mountains – through reconnection with nature, creative workshops, interaction with locals, traditions, and initiatives – you will be urged to capture your own impressions and reflect them in artistic works. Drawing on the ‘Fridays for Future’ movement, you will focus on collecting and archiving fragments, processes, thoughts, movements, practices, which might be lost in the future, thus generating a message for the coming generations. During the following 5 days, the project will move to the urban space of Chernivtsi city. Here you will research common and distinctive features of both environments, finalise the outcomes, and prepare the final exhibition.
If you are active in the field of visual arts, design, music (experimental and traditional), theatre and performance, media art, land art, contemporary dance, or literature, are aged between 21 – 35, feel like traveling, and are willing to get back to the roots and make nothing but art – this is the project for you!
Project language: English B2. Participation is free, and the organisers provide travel costs up to 180€ for German and 40€ for Ukrainian participants, as well as covering accommodation, catering, programme and material expenses.
Deadline: 15 June 2020
