Awaji Art Circus > Open Call for Artists/Performers (Japan)
Awaji Island, located in Hyogo Prefecture, is considered to be the Island of Japan’s Origin and is known for its beautiful natural surroundings and tasty food. However, in recent years, the island faces serious issues such as population outflow as well as a decreasing birthrate and aging population.
Taking place on Awaji Island, the Awaji Art Circus festival aims to bring more people to the island and to develop its arts and culture scene. AAC are now calling for talented international artists from around the world to spend six weeks living on the island (16 September – 27 October 2020) and making work at its various locations.
The call is open to artists of all performing arts genres such as: street performance, bodily expression, musical instrument performance, singing, live painting, dance, different circus disciplines (except all aerials acts, work with Chinese pole, tightrope walking, teeterboard, work with fire, and performances which require perfectly flat surface). Artists who are willing to break the barriers of existing genres as well as artists with interactive performance are welcome. Both groups (max. three people) and individuals are welcome to apply.
The festival covers:
Performance fee of 120,000 JPY (~1000 EUR). This is the sum per person in case of a group. In most venues, artists are also welcome to busk for extra income.
A two-way economy class air ticket from your nearest airport to Kansai International Airport.
Accommodation, meals and travel insurance.
There is also a festival contest with a prize of 300,000 JPY (~2500 EUR) for the winner.
Deadline: 19 April 2020
