Elias Canetti Artist Scholarship (Bulgaria)

Operated by the International Elias Canetti Society and funded by the Danube Rectors’ Conference, the Canetti Artist Scholarship is aimed at artists from Europe, as well as neighbouring countries in the Western Balkans and Turkey. It supports various different forms of arts: painters, photographers, writers, performance artists, translators, and musicians can all apply.

The scholarship holder will:

  • Pursue their artistic work undisturbed in the spring/summer of 2020 in Ruse.

  • Use the historic Canetti house as a workplace with various possibilities for artistic expression using the space itself.

  • Get to know the local cultural scene in Ruse and Bulgaria.

  • Live in an apartment provided by the IECS.

  • Receive a 1200€ grant and 300€ for travel expenses – 1500 € for both combined.

Various additional services (materials, organisational support, etc.) will be provided on an individual basis. A joint exhibition of the scholarship holders will take place in 2020 at the Canetti House as part of its Literature Festival.

Deadline: 30 March 2020
