Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL Grant (Japan)

Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL is an initiative that will see a variety of cultural programmes unfold in the run-up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, promoting Tokyo’s appeal as a city of arts and culture. As part of this effort, since 2016, the Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL Grant has provided support to almost 200 projects delivered by cultural/artistic organisations. The current open call will be the final call for this grant. Selected projects will become part of the official programme of Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL.

Projects can be in music, play, dance, visual arts, photography, literature, media arts (video, comics, animation, games, etc.), traditional arts, performing arts, lifestyles and culture (tea ceremony, flower arrangement, calligraphy, food, etc.), fashion, architecture, or any other form of art/collaboration across these artforms and disciplines.

One of the grant strands supports projects taking place in Tokyo which involve artists residing abroad and which encourage the creation of new art. This includes programmes related to artistic exchange (global collaborations, international festivals, etc.). However, overseas artists must be partnered with a Japanese organisation who acts the applicant.

The fund can award a maximum grant of 20,000,000 JPY (~166,000 EUR), but projects should be at least 50% match funded.

Deadline: 13 January 2020
