Galway Community Circus > Wires Crossed: Head, Heart, Balance, Open Call for Artists (Ireland)

Ecole De Cirque De Bruxelles, Galway Community Circus, The Serious Road Trip Romania, and the Université Libre de Bruxelles are looking for five artists to form a new professional funambulism ensemble as part of their Creative Europe funded project, Wires Crossed: Head, Heart, Balance.

Wires Crossed is a six-year project set to promote physical and mental wellbeing, safe risk-taking, and social inclusion through the art funambulism (wirewalking using a balancing pole). Running since 2017 through a partnership of 10 European Youth and Social Circus Schools, Wires Crossed is training people of all ages and backgrounds from across Europe to walk the tightwire through a large-scale public engagement programme.

The project partners are currently looking for five artists aged 18+ (no upper limit) to form the professional ensemble. This opportunity is aimed at either emerging funambulists, or artists experienced in other forms of equilibristics with strong physical performance skills.

Funambulism will be the main circus discipline used in the performance. However, during the creation process the project leaders anticipate working to explore other disciplines to create a show combining circus, visual poetry and physical theatre. For that reason they require artists to have a knowledge of ensemble work and a strong body-awareness, and to be open to improvisation in dramaturgy and performance. Competence in other circus disciplines is an advantage.

The project timeline stretches May 2020 – June 2021 (see the website for exact dates). Artists will receive a daily rate of 130 euro during creation and performance, for a minimum of 35 days and a maximum of 40 days during the project. Travel, accommodation and daily subsistence is covered on top of this.

Deadline: 1 December 2019
