Arctic Art Festival: International Snow-Ice Sculpture Competition 2025 (Finland)

The Arctic Art Festival is looking for professional and amateur artists passionate about environmental art for their Snow-Ice Carving Competition. A total of eight teams (of a maximum of two people) will be selected to participate, from 20 to 25 January 2025 in Rovaniemi, Finland.

The Ice and Snow Sculpture Competition theme is ‘Outside the Canvas’. The competition invites artists to think about the painting process and look beyond the one moment captured on the canvas. Look deeper into the objects, people, or circumstances surrounding the painting to create their own idea. Make changes or additions to bring new meaning to the original artwork, or even create their masterpiece by using a recognisable painter’s style.

Each sculpture must be created from a 3x3x3-meter snow cube and adorned with a 1x1x0.3-meter ice block.

Participants will be accommodated in the guest house near the Arctic Snow Hotel. Meals will be served three times a day at Arctic Snow Hotel Restaurants. Each participating team will receive a scholarship of 500 EUR/team after completing the sculpture. Additionally, the cash prizes of the snow-ice sculpture competition are as follows:

  • 1st place 1,500 EUR
  • 2nd place 1,000 EUR
  • 3rd place 500 EUR
  • Audience award 300 EUR

Organisers will cover travel expenses up to 600 EUR/team for flights from the country of residence to Helsinki and back. All the teams will travel from Helsinki and back by night train, which the organisers pay for.
