Alpine Fellowship Prizes for Academic Writing, Theatre, Visual Art and Writing 2024

A graphic with the text 'Prizes now open'.

The Alpine Fellowship is calling for creative works from anyone in the world on the theme of ‘Language’ for their Alpine Fellowship Prize 2024.

Language interfaces at all levels of human society, from models in physics that attempt to translate the complexities of our universe, to the social challenges of expressing minority voices, to algorithms, to large language models, to the simple but bewildering act of trying to translate the feelings of the heart, to oneself, to one’s community. Is there something that gets lost? And what is gained? And does it matter?

The Alpine Fellowship 2024 Symposium is hosted in partnership with Bard College through the Open Society University Network and supported in part by a grant from the Open Society Foundations. Every year writing, visual arts, and theatre prizes are awarded to the best works concerning the years’ theme.

Prize categories include: music, poetry, theatre, writing, visual arts, philosophy, and refugee scholar.

The winner and runners-up will receive cash prizes (3,000 GBP/1,000 GBP/1,000 GBP) and will be invited to attend the annual symposium (dates TBC). The Alpine Fellowship will offer up to 500 GBP travel expenses to help with travel to the event and meals and accommodation during the symposium dates are also covered.
