Founded in 2013, AAMC Foundation’s Mentorship Programme gives early- to mid- career curators (Mentees) opportunities to advance their professional development, learn about important issues in the field, share ideas and cultivate strong bonds with peers, and develop a working relationship with a senior curator (Mentors). Up to 10 Mentees with a required minimum of at least 3-5 years of curatorial experience in the field will be selected through a competitive application process for a career advancement experience. The programme’s goal is to advance the skills, experience and knowledge needed to succeed in a curatorial career, not specifically develop a singular curatorial or scholarly project.
The 2020-2021 programme launches this fall with the mentees conducting introductory video recordings that are shared with the cohort, mentors, and residency stakeholders. Then, as the foundation for the mentee cohort experience, they will participate in an intensive virtual residency featuring a combination of live and recorded content in November. At the time of application, Mentees must commit to reviewing pre-recorded sessions and attending live sessions on Mondays, 2, 9, 16, and 23 November from 1:00-3:30PM ET. An additional virtual event, tentatively scheduled for February 2021, will provide additional opportunities for networking and learning. Following the residency, the mentees will engage with their mentor through video meetings to advance the goals and overall career development. In May 2021, the mentees will attend the Art Curators Conference, which is slated to be held in NYC, to reconnect with their cohort and meet the nearly 400 curators in attendance from around the globe. This component may shift to an online format, given the uncertainties of travel surrounding the evolving pandemic. The programme concludes with a virtual meeting of the cohort, with each mentee presenting how the programme impacted their goals and development. The introduction and conclusion aspects of the programme add a digital learning and sharing experience for the Mentees.
All Mentees are provided funding to accommodate travel, as confirmed, in addition to networking, and other benefits.
Eligibility:

All applicants must be art curators at non-profit organisations in any country around the globe, with direct responsibility for works of art. In addition, independent curators and others that work a minimum of 50% of the time for/with non-profit organisations will be considered.

All applicants must have a required minimum of at least 3-5 years of direct working curatorial experience in the field, excluding internships.

All applicants must be able to commit to participating in all programme requirements at the time of application, including all deadlines (non-negotiable), timelines, and travel.
