    Akademie Schloss Solitude together with the National Art Gallery of Namibia and the Goethe-Institut Namibia is establishing a new residency programme that will be committed to a long-term artistic and cultural exchange between Namibia and Germany. Applications are open for artists from Germany working across the fields of visual arts, literature/journalism, and digital practices. The organisers especially welcome applications from Black persons and/or persons of African descent living in Germany. The residency will last four months, running 1 November 2020 - 28 February 2021.   • News / Liberty EU & Journeys Festival International > Call for Proposals

    ArtReach, producers of Journeys Festival International, are inviting artistic proposals from artists who have sought sanctuary in Europe; who are aged between 18 – 30, based in Europe, and making work for the digital realm; and whose freedom of movement is or has been restricted or negatively impacted because of their immigration status. Proposed artworks should explore the theme of freedom of movement, and can use forms including film, video, animation, live streams of performances or performance scores, recorded music, and soundscapes. Works will be shared as part of the digital Journeys Festival International programme in October 2020. Deadline: 29 May 2020.

  • News / Genius Loci Weimar > Video Projection Commissions

    Genius Loci Weimar is an international festival for audiovisual projects. The organisers are looking to commission three video projection projects to work with three buildings in Weimar: the Marstall, the Goethe and Schiller Archive, and the Altenburg. The winning concepts will be presented in the context of an evening tour through Weimar during the festival from 4-6 September 2020. Deadline: 14 June 2020.

  • News / Zentrum Gedankendach > ‘Two Roots’ Research Project for Artists from Germany and Ukraine

    Zentrum Gedankendach (a cultural centre in Chernivtsi, Ukraine) is looking for 16 artists from Germany and Ukraine to meet up for a two-week retreat (6-21 September 2020) and develop a multi-perspective answer to a question: ‘What have we lost to find?’ The retreat will take place partly in the Ukrainian Carpathian mountains and partly in Chernivtsi, and is open to artists aged 21-35 working in visual arts, design, music (experimental and traditional), theatre and performance, media art, land art, contemporary dance, or literature.     Onassis STEGI are inviting applications from artists, designers, developers, musicians, lawyers or anyone else interested for a four-week e-research programme aiming at developing digital works addressing the question of ‘what comes after?’. Proposals may include fiction or non-fiction essays, games, photo-essays, 3D visualisations, video, net art, net installations, apps, and other experimental digital media.     The next edition of the Nemo Biennial of digital arts will take place in the Île-de-France region from October 2021 to January 2022. The theme will be ‘BEYOND REALITY? The organisers have launched a call for: installations of digital contemporary art; hybrid and visual music performances; performing arts using digital technology or questioning our all-digital society; and arts and science projects.     Le Goethe-Institut du Chili et l’Institut français du Chili proposent un programme de résidences artistiques pour cinq duos franco-allemands. Chaque duo mènera un travail de recherche en collaboration avec le lieu de résidence chilien qui le recevra pendant un mois.
    Les disciplines recherchées sont : arts visuels, arts de la scène, art sonore, arts médiaux, architecture, urbanisme.   • News / Art Jameel > Digital Commission

    The third round of Art Jameel Commissions aims to support the production of a digital artwork that will live online, on the Jameel Art Centre website, for audiences to engage with, regardless of where they may be, from autumn/winter 2020 to 2021. The theme of the commission is TIME. It is open to artists of any nationality or age who have links to, and a grasp of, the environmental and cultural nuances of the wider Middle Eastern region. Artists may be from or based in the Middle East, North Africa or Turkey – either living in the region or diaspora – and/or engaged in contributing to the various cultural scenes of the region.   • News / Gulbenkian Residency for an Artist or Curator at the School of Arts, Porto

    The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in partnership with the School of Arts, Porto will provide a residency to an international artist or curator to develop their work for a period of three months, between September and December 2020.     Gamma_LAB XR is a laboratory dedicated to technologies used to create virtual, augmented, hybrid reality and immersive environments. The lab will take place 12-22 May 2020 in Saint Petersburg, but remote participation is also possible. A number of participants will then be supported to attend Gamma Festival in July 2020.     As part of its 2020 residency programme, the VR arts festival VRHAM! is looking to host two teams (one international) who are currently developing a groundbreaking and innovative VR-/AR-/XR-project.     V2_, Lab for the Unstable Media is an interdisciplinary centre for art and media technology in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). Its Summer Sessions are short-term international art and technology residencies for emerging artists and designers, taking place at institutions in six countries. Residencies last approximately eight weeks and take place between June and September. Applications are open to artists from the sponsoring countries: Taiwan, Spain, South Korea, Croatia, China, and Argentina. Deadline: 1 May 2020.
