  • News / culture360.ASEF.org: At Home / Being Home Online Residency for Emerging Artists from Asia and Spain

    At Home/Being Home is an e-residency for young emerging artists from the performing arts, music, film and new media sectors. The residency will consist of a capacity building component and a collaborative component. It will be held online for a period of six weeks (15 September - 29 October 2021) and will offer an opportunity for capacity building, peer learning and collaboration. Four participants from Spain and Asia will be selected through an open call and grouped in pairs. Applicants should be emerging artists between the ages of 18 and 28 with 2 to 4 years in performing arts (theatre, dance, music) or new media and film, with a focus on interdisciplinarity.

    ‘Solidarity is a Verb’ is a web residency for artists, collectives, associations, and initiatives of all kinds. Proposals can involve analogue means and low-tech, physical gatherings where possible and safe. Projects do not need to be conceived from scratch; ongoing initiatives (such as existing associations, networks) are welcomed. The residency itself runs 1 September – 1 October 2021.

    WE-Hope and Digital Democracies have announced a call out for artists to use testimonials collected from survivors of conflict to create an interactive digital animation. The commissioned work will be shown in public outdoor space and premiered at Frequency Festival 2021 in Lincoln, UK.

  • News / ShUM: Artist in Residence (Germany)

    The organisation SchUM is leading the process to nominate the Jewish communities of Speyer, Worms and Mainz as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In connection with this, they are offering up to three project fellowships for the realisation of an artistic project that addresses the history of the ShUM communities and their religious, cultural and architectural legacy. The residency will last for 4 to 6 weeks and is scheduled between October 2021 and February 2022 (start date in 2021).

  • News / Youthful Cities: Digital Storytelling Lab for Artists in Coventry and Nairobi (Online)

    Artists aged 18-25 years resident in Coventry (UK) or Nairobi (Kenya) are invited to apply for a Digital Storytelling Lab programme. Running over 10 months, from July 2021 - March 2022, the Lab will take 12 selected artists through a collaborative process that is part cultural exchange, part digital storytelling lab and part commissioning programme.

  • News / ANABASIS Online Residency for Artists from Germany and Ukraine

    The residency ANABASIS inspired by Paul Celan, one of the most important German-speaking poets of the twentieth century, will feature German and Ukrainian artists working with new media. The artists are invited to deal with questions of identity and posthumanism in a funded workshop and project phase. The resulting works will be presented in November 2021.

    British Council in partnership with Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridgeshire, and Digital Arts Studios, Belfast is pleased to announce the second round of Net//Work Online Digital Arts Residencies. Applications are open to mid-career visual artists based in South Africa, Nigeria, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan, or Malaysia who work creatively with digital technologies (work that is made or presented using digital technology). Residencies take place from 25 October – 19 November 2021.

    The Finnish National Opera and Ballet and the digital culture festival Assembly are calling for teams to propose creative technological concepts that take live performance to new heights. This is an invitation to reimagine the experience of opera performance in the age of omnipresent digitality. A group of finalists will be chosen to continue to develop their concept with a team of experts and mentors over August-September 2021, working online/remotely.

    The new season of the Garage Digital grant program Situated Worlds invites artists and researchers to explore the idea of multiple coexisting worlds and ways of creating them, drawing on Donna Haraway’s theory of ‘situated knowledges’. The programme is open to Russian and international artists and groups applying with projects for a new work in any medium that allows for exhibition and distribution online.

  • News / arebyte: Open Screen Call for Disabled Artists Working with Digital Technology (Online)

    Developed in partnership with Shape Arts, Open Screen is arebyte’s yearly open call for digital artists to be part of of arebyte on Screen, an expanded and innovative online platform for digital animations, videos, web-based interactive experiences and curatorial interventions. The call is open to artists aged 18 and above anywhere in the world who identify as ‘disabled’ under the Social Model of Disability, regardless of impairment.

  • News / Summer Sessions Art and Technology Residencies (Netherlands, Austria, Russia, Spain, Italy, China, South Korea, Croatia, Belgium)

    The Summer Sessions are short-term international art and technology residencies for emerging artists and designers. Artists and designers working with art and technology are eligible to apply if they are under the age of 35 and/or have graduated within the past five years, and live in a country where there is a Summer Sessions sponsoring partner (Netherlands, Taiwan, Spain, Austria, Russia, China, South Korea, Croatia and Belgium). Each Summer Sessions residency lasts approximately eight weeks and takes place between July and September.

    The fifth edition of Digital Lab Africa, the first mentorship and incubation program for African creatives in innovative and digital content, has launched its next call for applications.     VRHAM! (Virtual Reality in Hamburg) are looking for creators and artists working in the field of Interactive Arts who want to (further) develop their already existing artistic project (or a work in progress) by exploring the possibilities that lie in the innovation of 3D-scanning technologies. The successful applicant will undertake a residency in Marseilles, France and showcase the results during VRHAM! festival in Hamburg (4-12 June 2021).
