33rd SIMBAS Conference > Call for papers: ‘Performing the future: Institutions and politics of memory’ (Poland)
‘Being a user of a library, an archive or a museum always means – whether we want it to or not – entering into a political arena. The institutions which gather, organise and disseminate information about the past are powerful tools in building a cultural self-image. They are potent instruments of soft power in the arsenal of any ruling political elite. Of course, this situation also applies to institutions dealing with theatre and performing arts.’
The 33rd SIBMAS Conference will take place 2-5 June 2020 in Warsaw, and focus, among other things, on the issue of theatre heritage institutions and the politics of memory – what narratives do we need and for what purpose? It will address also the topic of ecology in the library, archive, and museum simply because few issues are more pressing in today’s world.
The organisers are inviting proposals for papers to be given at the conference. These may be submitted in English or French, but presentations at the conference must be delivered in English. The time allowed for each presentation is 20 minutes maximum, followed by a 10-minute Q&A period.
Thanks to the support of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Theatre Institute in Warsaw is able to provide individual financial grants for the 2020 SIBMAS Conference for participants with no other institutional support.
