Asian Civilisations Museum > Research Fellowship Grant 2020-2021 (Singapore)
The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) in Singapore invites scholars to apply for fellowships in one of the following research areas:
Southeast Asian Islamic art
Maritime trade / Asian Export Art
Peranakan Art and Culture
Buddhist Art (preferably Tantric/Himalayan)
Asian fashion, textiles, or jewellery
The research fellowship supports in-depth original study and writing on specialised aspects of Asian culture. Applications will be screened by a committee of curators and scholars.
Applicants should have a PhD or be in the final stages of their dissertation. In addition, applicants with equivalent research qualifications and experience will be considered. Applicants should have completed the bulk of their field work on their proposed projects, and be able to write and present papers in English.
The standard duration of the fellowship is nine months (academic year). Candidates may also apply for a period of six months. The start and finish of the award period is flexible, though successful candidates must commence their fellowships within the year of the award – i.e. end of 2020 at the latest.
The monthly stipend for overseas researchers is S$5,000. Overseas researchers are also offered a one-time grant of S$3,000 as a relocation allowance. Research fellows are liable for local taxes according to Singapore’s tax regulations.
Researchers who are based in Singapore will receive a monthly stipend of S$3,500.
ACM offers the use of its library and collection as primary resources to the scholar.
