Almagro OFF International Contest (Spain) > Open call for applications
The Almagro OFF International Contest represents the commitment of the Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre to give space and visibility to the young stage directors, who work with a renewed language and staging approach to the classical texts in order to point directly at the curiosity of today’s audience.
This Contest aims to discover and reward new directors working on baroque texts from a perspective of originality, innovation, risk and contemporaneity.
The venue where the Contest takes place is Teatro La Veleta, home of Centro Latinoamericano de Creación e Investigación Teatral (Latin American Centre for Theatre Creation and Research) a multipurpose venue located in a unique setting in the immediate outskirts of Almagro. In this idyllic background, the activity is nonstop during the days of the Contest as the participating companies assemble, perform and disassemble daily.
From its first edition, the call for proposals has awakened the enthusiasm and creativity of new creators from several countries like the United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, Greece, Argentina, Chile, Denmark, Colombia, Lebanon and Italy, as well as from all over Spain.
The grants for international companies range from 2,000 till 6,000 euros.
