La Gaîté Lyrique, Cinekid, KIKK and WoeLab are coordinating Les Voyages de Capitaine futur, a joint project that aims to empower citizens with technology culture from a very young age. The four partners are developing the project around Capitaine futur, an imaginary character whose journeys introduce, since 2011, children to contemporary art and new media, which serve as tools for emancipation and learning. The partnership is launching an open call for proposals for the production and travelling exhibition of three original media artworks, which will be paired with creation workshops and online tutorials and exhibited in Paris, Amsterdam, Namur and Lomé. Amongst the topics addressed by the call, which covers the 11 Programme Priorities, are the challenges linked to territorial economic growth through the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, the driving role of innovation and research, social inclusion and the fight against poverty, and finally the protection of environment and adaptation to climate change. Each partnership submitting a project proposal shall represent at least three eligible countries, including at least one different EU Mediterranean Country and one Mediterranean Partner Country. This residency programme is part of the “Project to Support Nurturing of Media Arts Creators” organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan (Bunka-cho). Emerging artists in Media Arts (Media Geijutsu in Japanese) around the world are invited to come and stay in Tokyo to create new works. Whether the works are media art, videos, games, animations, or manga, during their stay the artists will be able to experience Japanese Media Arts culture, with an additional opportunity to meet with Japanese creators to discuss their works. This year, 3 artists from abroad will be invited to experience a seven week residency in some localities in Japan, each ending in a three-week residency, presentation and exhibition at 3331 Arts Chiyoda in Tokyo. Participating curators from residencies in Korea and Taiwan will nominate an artist from their respective countries. The third artist will be selected via a worldwide open call. One of the key points to qualify is to have experience in carrying out art projects and collaborating with local communities. Deadline: 14 August 2017.
