The seventh edition of the Crystal Ruth Bell Residency invites applications for a six-month remote residency in 2021. In this pandemic year, with travel on hold for everyone's safety, the residency will be held around the theme 'Mediated'. The call is open to individuals and collectives working in all types of creative practices, of all passports, ages, gender identities, backgrounds, abilities, and interests. Residency dates will be flexible and take place between March 2021 and December 2021. Deadline: 9 February 2021.
La Maison Baldwin is inviting applications for its 2021-2022 residency programme. Writers in residence are offered a room in the centre of Saint Paul de Vence, France to pursue their current creative project. While in residence, they will contribute to the literary culture of the village by offering a community event or creative public programme. This fellowship is open to emerging writers working in the spirit of James Baldwin. Eligible to apply are poets, playwrights, essayists and fiction writers with no more than one full-length published book, produced film, or professionally staged production. Cultour is Capital is calling for artists, creatives or cultural operators to show work they produced during lockdown. Three winners will be chosen for residency opportunities in Gelsenkirchen, Košice, and Matera to develop your skills with local artists and cultural operators. Art Explora / Cité Internationale des arts > Residency Programme for Artists and Researchers (France)
The Art Explora Foundation and the Cité internationale des arts are collaborating to co-construct a unique residency programme for French and international artists and researchers. There are two strands: one for solo artists, one for artist-researcher duos. The first session will begin in March 2021. Eligible artistic disciplines: visual arts, performing arts, digital art. Eligible areas of research: humanities, social sciences, sciences, technological innovation & sustainable development, art criticism & exhibition curating. Deadline: 6 November 2020.
Mophradat has partnered again with Kunstencentrum BUDA and NEXT Festival in Belgium, this time to offer a performing artist from the Arab world the opportunity to be in residency for a three-week period (October / November 2021) and use BUDA’s facilities to finalise a piece in-progress. Immediately following the residency, the new work will be performed during the 2021 edition of NEXT Festival, which takes place across the Eurometropolis region of Kortrijk and Tournai in Belgium, and Lille and Valenciennes in France. Every year from April to June the city of Pforzheim invites international young designers to the city as part of the Designers in Residence scholarship programme. Designers in Residence addresses young designers working in the fields of jewellery, fashion, accessory and industrial design. Three scholarship holders will be invited to the EMMA – Creative Center Pforzheim for a three-month working phase, running 1 April 2021 – 30 June 2021. Deadline: 15 November 2020.
AiNIN – Artists in Nature International Network is calling for proposals for a virtual residency programme on the theme of ‘Dynamic natural connections’ to celebrate the germination of ideas, continual growth, and our inherent capacity for transformation and renewal. There are two residency periods: 11-31 January 2021 and 1-21 March 2021. Artists, researchers, designers, scholars working in the field of contemporary art and research with a focus on nature are eligible to apply. Group or collaborative applications are welcome. Nida Art Colony is organising a new research/residency programme called Neringa Forest Architecture. Applications are sought from researchers, designers, architects and artists from Estonia, Latvia, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, including the autonomous areas of the Faroe Islands, the Åland Islands and Greenland, for the period December 2020 – March 2021. Designers, architects, artists, historians, new materials’ scientists and forest researchers, in particular women and underrepresented minorities, are invited to propose projects. RUK is a network of art and culture research centres at the intersection of contemporary technologies, science, and the economy. For its residency programme artists work together with a mentor within a company to explore the potential of that company’s products, projects or processes and to see how their artistic practice can help develop existing potential. Each residency lasts 2-4 weeks, with various dates available from December 2020 to May 2022, and takes place at locations in Trbovlje, Koper and Maribor in Slovenia. Deadline: 1 December 2020.
ARAK Collection, based in Doha, Qatar, is inviting applications from curators from Sub-Saharan Africa. Goethe-Institut has created a new virtual residency programme with a view to maintaining and reinforcing international exchange and collaboration in the music sector. Funding for virtual partner residencies is now available to arrange for international musical collaboration projects. This virtual partner residency programme is for solo artists and small ensembles from Germany and abroad. At least one artist or ensemble based in Germany should be involved in submitted projects. ZK/U / Mondriaan Fonds > 2021 Residencies for Visual Artists, Curators, Critics and Theorists (Germany)
Based in Berlin, ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik is a residency centre operating at the intersection of visual arts, art research, architecture and urban innovation. Mondriaan Fonds is sponsoring two six-month residency periods at ZK/U: 1 January – 30 June 2021 and 1 July – 30 December 2021. Applications are open for visual artists and mediators (curators, critics, theorists). Artists are expected to have an advanced professional practice and mediators (curators, critics, theorists) should have a few years of professional experience.
