Hamburg Ministry for Culture and Media > Residency for International Artists (Germany)
Hamburg Ministry for Culture and Media is inviting applications for four three-month residencies between January and December 2021 in the Westwerk artists’ centre in Hamburg.
The residency is a residential and work grant that requires the artist to live and work at Westwerk and facilitates both work on an artistic project and networking with the Hamburg cultural scene. Westwerk is centrally located in inner-city Hamburg, in a relatively large complex of buildings on Fleetinsel that houses further studios, galleries, an art bookshop and a small theatre.
Residents are provided:
Rent-free provision of the 68 m² residency flat.
An additional expense allowance of €800 per month per artist in residence plus travel expenses for one return journey. (Grants are intended for one person.)
A one-off subsidy of €500 per residency towards the costs of running and organising a final presentation.
The place and format of the final presentation will be agreed with Westwerk. Smaller exhibitions and media-based presentations of artistic work as part of a public event are also conceivable, as are lectures, presentations of work or discussions with artists in the bar room or possibly in the hall, and will be supported by Westwerk.
Periods of residency:
1 January – 31 March 2021.
1 April – 30 June 2021.
1 July – 30 September 2021.
1 October – 31 December 2021.
The programme is open to professional international artists resident outside Germany, from the fields of the visual arts, photography and film, with an interest in the Hamburg cultural scene and the desire to network culturally in Hamburg.
Deadline: 15 August 2020
