In Spring 2025, Region Norrbotten’s art developer, in collaboration with KKV Luleå and the art magazine Loosenart, invites photographers (artists and journalists alike) to apply for a six-week production residency in Luleå, a city located in northern Sweden, just below the Arctic Circle and part of the Arctic Sweden and Sápmi region.
During the residency, the selected photographer will have access to a studio space at KKV Luleå, an artist collective equipped with various machines and workshops. This setup fosters collaboration and networking with regional artists and professionals. Additionally, trips and study visits within the region can be organised based on the artist’s preferences and research interests.
As part of the residency, the photographer will also be invited to give a presentation on their artistic work to local audiences.
KKV Luleå is one of Sweden’s largest artist collective studios. It is fully equipped with creative labs, including a photographic workshop with studio lighting, a camera with a tripod, various Adobe programs, an A3 photo printer, and photo paper.
Applicants need to be a resident of an EU country and a professional visual artist with at least 5 years of experience.
The residence offers the following:
- Tax-free Scholarship: 20,000 SEK.
- Support for Materials/Travel Costs: Up to 15,000 SEK.
- Accommodation: A studio-apartment located in central Luleå.
- Workspace: A studio at KKV Luleå.
- Custom activities based on the artist’s interests.
- A chance to showcase some works produced during the residency at Millepiani space in Rome (Italy) in Autumn 2025.
- The potential for one of the residency-produced works to be purchased and added to Region Norrbotten’s art collection.
