New Europe College: Tandem Fellowship for Authors and Translators from the Black Sea Region (Romania)

New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest is launching a new fellowship programme.

‘TANDEM, author with translator – translator with author’ is a programme exclusively dedicated to literati, writers and translators, with the aim to promote authors from the Black Sea Region by encouraging the translation of their work into the local languages.

The fellowship programme targets writers and translators from: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine. Applicants from the Baltics or the Western Balkans may be considered under special circumstances.

Tandem offers fellowships consisting of:

  • A residency (at least two consecutive months, up to five months in total) at New Europe College in Bucharest for a Tandem team (author and translator). Dates to be agreed with NEC.
  • A monthly stipend for each Tandem participant (850€ per person).
  • Travel and accommodation funds.
  • Workspace and office equipment at New Europe College.
  • Assistance with visa procedures, residence permit, access to local institutions (libraries), etc.

Additional funds for working materials, for small public events, possibly even for a publication, may be granted depending on the case.

During their residency, Tandems belong to the diverse international community of NEC fellows and are invited to all NEC events.
