Köttinspektionen Dans: Residency for Dance Artists (Sweden)

Open call

Köttinspektionen is an artist-run cultural centre located in Uppsala, founded in 2014. The venue is shared between three art forms: dance, theatre and visual arts.

Köttinspektionen dans is an artist-run curatorial project that can offer a broad local network within the field of dance, performance and visual arts. It encompasses a large spectrum of performative artistic practices, as well as curatorial, theoretical and pedagogical experiences. It has hosted a variety of choreographic practices, performances and interventions that experiment, in different ways, with dance and choreography in terms of form, politics and its relations.

During 2024 Köttinspektionen are offering a one-month residency for international dance artists and choreographers, one person or a small group (maximum 3 people). The residency is aimed at professional dance artists, looking for a quiet space for process-based work, to try new ways of working, challenging habitual methods and practices in order to experience, examine and understand their own artistic practice in a new light.

The residency kicks off during the annual performance festival Revolve Performance Art Days, and as part of the residency the artist is asked to participate in the festival with a public performance. The artist is also asked to share the work they do during the residency in a public residency showing and/or workshop.

The residency offers workspace, where the artist (or group) will have full access to the venue during the residency period, after the festival, 28 May - 23 June 2024. The venue includes a performance space with a basic rig for theatre lights, and a sound system. The performance space is equipped with dance floor and audience seating. There is no house technician or staff present in the building but can be arranged upon agreement for public showings.

The residency also offers a programme of support activities that the artist can choose to participate in. Köttinspektionen offer the opportunity to meet with local culture producers, in depth conversations (around working process, production, communication, etc), feedback sessions, and the possibility to organise residency showings, public or for an invited audience.

The residency offers:

  • Participation in Revolve Performance Art Days – an annual international performance festival.
  • Access to rehearsal and performance spaces and use of technical equipment.
  • Residency fee of 60,000 SEK (this includes fee for participating in Revolve Performance Art festival).
  • Accommodation.
  • Travel allowance.
  • Film documentation.
  • Audience host and PR for public events.
