OneBeat > Virtual Residencies and OneBeat Lebanon for Musicians and Sonic Artists (Online)
OneBeat brings together emerging musical leaders from around the world to collaboratively create original work and to develop a global network of civically engaged music initiatives.
OneBeat has announced two virtual exchanges in response to the COVID-19 pandemic: OneBeat Virtual and OneBeat Lebanon.
OneBeat Virtual will digitally convene 70 musicians from up to 44 countries and territories in two separate virtual residencies taking place 12 July – 6 September 2021 and 20 September - 17 November 2021. Each programme will offer a fully virtual residency and exchange programme with musicians from around the globe.
Over the course of 8 weeks, OneBeat Virtual Fellows will investigate new forms of virtual collaboration, form ensembles to write, produce, and perform genre-defying work, attend virtual masterclasses and open-studios, lead online workshops, and produce a streaming final concert for the public. Fellows will also have the opportunity to pursue self-directed projects during the Fellowship. These projects will address a particular community and focus on community engagement and participation. OneBeat encourage the development of projects that explore innovations within a particular field of arts engagement, digital media, or technology.
Musicians and sonic artists, aged 19-35, from eligible countries and territories are invited to apply. Eligible countries and territories:
Albania, Algeria, Barbados, Bolivia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Greenland, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mali, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Philippines, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, United States, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Zimbabwe.
Fellows will receive a $1500 USD honorarium, a per diem for online work sessions, and, based on individual need, a small subsidy for technical support.
OneBeat Lebanon will digitally convene 10 Lebanon-based musicians and two US-based musicians for an intensive residency to co-create original work and to develop civically engaged music initiatives. Taking place 5-26 July 2021, this three-week virtual programme will draw inspiration from the music of our ancestors, and the fundamental musicality that predates language itself, posing the question: What if, in a parallel universe, music was the only language?
Musicians and sonic artists, ages 19-35, from Lebanon and the United States are invited to apply. Fellows will receive a $1500 USD honorarium as well as stipend for purchasing necessary audio equipment and enhanced internet connectivity.
Deadline: 26 February 2021 (OneBeat Lebanon) / 10 March 2021 (OneBeat Virtual)
