Kara Agora > Speculative Playrooms (Online)
The participatory online art and research centre Kara Agora are inviting 3D modellers and animators, artists, designers, scientists, researchers, futurologists, curators and creative writers to apply to take part in an online workshop and to design speculative spaces in the Mozilla Hubs platform.
The aim of the workshop is to enable various groups of 3D modellers and animators, artists, designers, scientists, researchers, futurologists, curators and creative writers guided by mentors to create speculative design artefacts, VR spaces or other productions that have a speculative design characteristic and that deal with one of the scientific traits predefined in the call. As our sense of intimacy is different in technologically mediated spaces, these virtual spaces are changing the concept of presence and they are becoming our new comfort zones. In these spaces we can try out new forms of interaction that can lead to empathy or alienation. During the workshop, together with the participants and mentors, the aim is to try out those formats that can enhance the sense of solidarity in virtual spaces and can reframe human exchange types. The outputs (virtual spaces, interaction types, extended concepts) will be exhibited in Mozilla Hubs at Kara Agora Center between 10-30 November 2020.
The programme is comprised of three stages: a workshop and matchmaking seminar; a research period; and a final stage to design speculative playrooms. The work is spread out on various dates from 1 October – 30 November 2020. Selected participants are required to participate in all presentations, workshops, and discussions, both in the workshop and the creation period. Participants will receive a one time fee of 250 Euro.
Deadline: 15 September 2020
