Asia Culture Center > Open Call for Asia Dance Community Choreographer LAB (South Korea)

The Asia Culture Center (ACC) in Gwangju, South Korea has carried out the Asia Dance Community Project since 2010 as a way of energising Asia’s dance networks, developing creative dance content, building repertoires on the basis of mid- and long-term perspectives, and establishing networks among governments and dancers in Asia. The Choreography LAB Program is an incubator project that aims to widen the creative and artistic views of the participants and support exchange among Asian dancers.

The organisers are now calling for new Asian choreographers who are able to create and produce a creative work that addresses contemporary Asian perspectives and values. They will be resident at the ACC for three months, July-September 2020.


  • A production support fee of max. 8,000,000 KRW (~6000 EUR) including withholding tax per project.

  • Accommodation within the ACC Asia Plex studio for non-residents of Gwangju.

  • One roundtrip airfare and one roundtrip domestic travel.

  • Access to a dance studio and research room in the ACC (communal space).

  • Technical support with stage lighting, acoustic equipment (limited on certain sites) and operating personnel.

Applicants should be Asian choreographers with experience of choreographing three or more works (of around 20 minutes per work).
