Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics > INHABIT Artist in Residence Programme (Germany)

The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics’ INHABIT program fosters the exchange between artists and scientists and enables new and challenging perspectives towards research at the Institute. The new artist in residence programme calls on artists interested in cooperating with scientists from the humanities and natural sciences who are active in aesthetics research. INHABIT invites artists from a wide range of visual and performing arts disciplines for up to three months to develop a new work or elaborate on an existing project. Residents are expected to execute their project as a performance, exhibition or concert in cooperation with a local exhibition venue. During the artists’ residence in Frankfurt/Main, the MPIEA provides spaces and resources and thus facilitates an environment for experimentation, dialogue and collaboration.

There are two upcoming residency periods: February - April 2020 and May - July 2020.

The organisers are looking for:

  • Applications from artists who are interested in the collaboration between the artistic and scientific fields and who will dedicate the residency period to research and development of a new work.

  • Openness in sharing and developing the project in an exhibition, performance, or concert.

  • Artists who are active in contemporary culture and respond to the institute with innovative and challenging ideas.

  • Openness to meet on a weekly basis with the curatorial team to follow up and provide feedback.

They offer:

  • An artist’s fee of €6000.

  • Accommodation fee of €2000.

  • A production budget depending on the project.

  • Realisation of the final project.

  • Travel costs to and within Frankfurt.

  • Collaborations with scientists.

  • Access to the library, sound studio and scientific facilities of the Institute.

  • Curatorial support during the residency.

Deadline: 3 November 2019
