NEF Animation > International Artist Residency Programme (France)

Among its missions, NEF Animation supports writing and creative research in the field of animated film by developing artist residency programmes that encourage international mobility. The International Residency for Animated Films is hosted and co-produced by the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, one of the most important sites of the Loire valley (France).

The International Residency for Animated Films allows artists to immerse themselves into their work for one month – without caring about material constraints, in a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere that enables them to meet and exchange with other artists in residency.

Artists can apply with any personal projects of short-, medium- or full-length animated films. Animated film projects in new or hybrid formats (artistic installation, virtual reality, transmedia, video-mapping, TV series or TV special, animated documentary, etc.) are also accepted.

This residency program receives the financial support of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, through the 'Odyssée' programme of the Association of Cultural Encounter Centres (ACCR).

In 2020 there will be two residency periods: one in April 2020 and one in October 2020. The selected artists will be split between one or the other of these two residency periods, according to the accommodation capacity and the wishes stated in their application.

NEF Animation provides:

  • A creation grant of 1200 Euro.
  • Travel expenses reimbursed on the basis of a price calculated proportional to the distance between the artist's home and the Abbey of Fontevraud.
  • Accommodation at the Abbey. Residents also have access to a garden, the Abbey site, and a shared workshop of 100m² (with no equipment).

Deadline: 4 November 2019.
