CROSS Award 2019 (Italy) > International Performance Art Award

CROSS Award is an international award, born in 2014 from an idea by Tommaso Sacchi and aimed
at early works in the field of performing arts (dance, theatre, music). The award aims to stimulate
the investigation and artistic expression related to the union of different styles and genres,
evaluating as a rewarding factors the multi-language practices and the commingling of techniques
and codes related to the various performing arts. The aim of the competition is to identify new
productions that bring into dialogue the languages of the body and of the stage action with the
musical composition.

LIS Lab Performing Arts - in collaboration with Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo and Ricola - announces the fifth edition of the 'International CROSS award' for artists and companies in the field of performing arts and music, with particular attention to productions focused on the close interaction between musical composition and action on stage.

The call is open to individual artists, professionals and companies. The project must be submitted as a production that can be developed during the different phases of the residency and that could include the most diverse expressive practices (as such: dance, music composition and interpretation, DJ-set, live soundtrack, composition of a soundtrack, activity of noise music, theatre, body performance, singing, new technologies, video art, motion-capture, readings, site specific design).  

The four selected projects will be announced by October 6th, 2019 and will be developed during the residency phase in Verbania in a period from January 2020 and follow months. For a maximum of 16 days of residence for each individual artist / company selected. The work carried out will be presented to the public and to the jury (territorial and expert). 

The phase of residence is held in Verbania from January 2020 and follow months. During the period of residency the organization will cover the costs of accommodation for the entire indicated period, for up to 5 people A fee of 4000,00 € for each project in Residency is expected to be used as fee and/or to cover part of the costs of production during the phase of residency. In addition, technical staff will be available to assist and a technical sheet to be agreed. The allowance is specifically intended for the CROSS project residency, financed by art.43 of MIBAC, for ‘artists working on the territory’ thanks to a joint proposal by MiBAC the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and the Regione Piemonte. (the Region of Piedmont).


The 4 projects chosen for the residencies will be invited to Verbania on the 19th and 20th of October 2019 to present the projects to the tutors and the territorial jury of CROSS Award 2019. Each project which is selected will receive a plaque of participation. Each of the winning projects will receive a prize of 4000,00 Euro to support their production. The prize will be paid as an allowance and to sustain production costs.
